When Nick Shelton graduated from Brandywine in 2004, all he knew about t-shirts was how to wear them. Today, Shelton co-owns CreateMyTee.com and is the Campus Rep Honcho.
CreateMyTee got its start in 2005 at Albion College when a group of friends started selling tees to their classmates. Today, CreateMyTee.com has over 100 Reps on over 70 college campuses across the US. CreateMyTee's next step is to replicate the success of their College Rep program, by extending their reach to high schools and their surrounding communities. For Shelton, Brandywine was the obvious first choice.
The program, dubbed TEEmates, does two things.
- It provides the community with the BEST custom t-shirt experience ANYWHERE.
- It raises money for Brandywine Community Schools by giving 10% of ALL CreateMyTee.com community purchases back to the school's Improvement Foundation.
Jasmine Neldon (Brandywine '09) is one of CreateMyTee's most successful Campus Reps (Western Michigan University). Jasmine, along with Brandon Hood (Brandywine '95), CreateMyTee's Regional Sales Manager, and Shelton will be spearheading the TEEmates program for Brandywine. The goal for the trio is to raise $10,000 for Brandywine in 2010.
Jasmine thinks the goal can be accomplished: "Everyone needs tees. Many different businesses, sports teams, festivals, are going to purchase shirts this year. If they use CreateMyTee, they are going to be wowed by the experience and the final product. And being able to give back to the community in the process is icing on the cake."
A committee is being formed to get the word out about how the tee shirt program can help our school district. This committee will work together to spread the word about TEEmates throughout the community.
Shelton is very excited to see what TEEmates has in store for Brandywine. "At the end of the day, the idea is to raise funds for Brandywine," says Shelton. "But it's also about amplifying school spirit, capturing moments in time, and bringing the community together to do something monumental. If we put our minds to it, the amount of money we can raise for Brandywine is limitless."
CreateMyTee has already provided the Brandywine Community with several memorable tees over the past few months. These shirts include the "On Track and Racing Forward" shirts to honor the new track, "Lakeland Conference Champs" shirts for the girls basketball team, "Kiddy Cats" shirts for the girls youth basketball league, "Beat Cancer" shirts to support Evan Hartman and his family, and many more. Additionally, CreateMyTee donated $95 to the Brandywine Improvement Foundation in February.
CreateMyTee and Brandywine will be kicking off a "Sea of Maroon" T-shirt Design Competition later this year to boost school spirit. Students from each building will have the opportunity to submit a design for the competition. Shirts with the winning designs will be provided to every student in the district in Fall 2010. In order to provide the free tee shirts to all students, we will need sponsors. Sponsors will have their business ads on the backs of all the tee shirts. If you are interested in your business or group helping to sponsor the shirts, please contact Nick Shelton at 888-392-9631or nick@CreateMyTee.com.
