Meet the CreateMyTee Crew

Friday, August 06, 2010 @ 1:23 PM

Providing each and every customer with the best custom t-shirt experience in the history of the world is no easy task.  From Artists to Printers, and Interns to Reps, the CreateMyTee Crew works extremely hard to make "Shirt Happen!"

This blog post introduces you to the Fervent Foursome.  These are the fellas on the other end of your phone calls and emails.

President and Founder (El Presidente), Josh Fales

Josh Fales was born for entrepreneurship and has always known he wanted to start his own business.  Even in high school, when Josh was in need of extra money, his first instinct was always to work for himself rather than look for a part-time job.  He quickly found that he could make money by finding a need within his local community and creating a service to fulfill it.  With the support and encouragement of his parents, Josh started and maintained a successful business of power-washing and sealing decks for four summers over his high school career.

After graduating Josh passed down his lucrative high school start-up to a friend and moved on to pursue a degree in Economics & Management from Albion College in Albion, Michigan.  It was there in 2005 when he (again) found himself in need of extra spending (beer) money.  This time, as a senior member of the Sigma Nu fraternity on campus, the local need he recognized was in the custom screen printing industry.  He realized the enormous potential in the custom printing market not only within his own fraternity, but across the entire campus. Enter the birth of CreateMyTee!  Josh and several of his fraternity brothers ran with the idea and after selling over $25,000 in custom apparel during the course of the year, Josh knew they had come up with something special.

The thought of turning CreateMyTee.com into a full-fledged e-commerce business stayed with Josh even after he graduated and took on a full time job.  After two and a half years of trial and error, a few failed attempts, and many sleepless nights all the pieces finally came together that allowed him to quit his day job and officially launch CreateMyTee.com.  Fales partnered with local talent and reunited with his college buddies, and has since embraced his role as President and Founder of his own company.  He now happily spends his days offering customers the best custom t-shirt experience imaginable, and making Shirt Happen.

V.P. of Marketing, Chad Eckert

Chad got his start with CreateMyTee in 2005 as the original graphic artist at Albion college. He created the designs for several campus groups including the "Dancing Keg" Senior Barn Party shirt, which boogied its way onto over 1000 tees and counting. Chad is credited as the mastermind behind the company's incredible name, "CreateMyTee.com".

After graduation, Chad moved to Ann Arbor to help Josh get the business off the ground, taking care of customers while Josh was still working his day job. Chad is now the premier "go-to-guy" for anything Marketing. He builds partnerships, brand awareness, and manages most of the creative. You can also find him taking care of customers from time to time.

V.P. of Sales (Reps Honcho), Nick Shelton

Nick got his start with CreateMyTee in 2006 as the original Campus Rep.  After graduating from Albion College in 2008, Nick made his way to Las Vegas where he worked for a major appliance company by day, and as an Elvis impersonator by night (that second part is entirely false).

In the early months of 2009, T-shirts beckoned Nick back to Michigan. Nick made the trek from Vegas to Ann Arbor in his beloved Bonneville and officially re-joined the CreateMyTee Crew in June, 2009 as the Rep Honcho.  Since then, Nick has been a driving force behind the expansion of CreateMyTee's Rep network, increasing the party from 5 Reps to 200 Reps (and counting!).  You can also see Nick's lovely mug on CreateMyTee's Facebook Page.

Manager of Operations, Steve Hall

The newest member of the team, Steve came on at a crucial time for CreateMyTee.  Being a recent Biology major graduate, one might wonder why he is now managing operations and customers.  Well, they saw his expertise shine through his philanthropic endeavors during college along with his constant interest in CreateMyTee which ultimately landed him the job.  They also saw this as an opportunity to give him a ridiculous nickname – Dr. Ops

Steve handles the daily flawless execution of every single Tee-shirt that comes through, while still finding time to attempt to humor his audiences through his witty “Random Shirt” blogs.  He continues to strive for excellence in every area possible, hoping to be the best asset to the team that he can.

CreateMyTee.com Provides Community Fundraising Program for Schools

Monday, March 15, 2010 @ 6:39 PM

When Nick Shelton graduated from Brandywine in 2004, all he knew about t-shirts was how to wear them. Today, Shelton co-owns CreateMyTee.com and is the Campus Rep Honcho.

CreateMyTee got its start in 2005 at Albion College when a group of friends started selling tees to their classmates. Today, CreateMyTee.com has over 100 Reps on over 70 college campuses across the US. CreateMyTee's next step is to replicate the success of their College Rep program, by extending their reach to high schools and their surrounding communities. For Shelton, Brandywine was the obvious first choice.

The program, dubbed TEEmates, does two things.

  1. It provides the community with the BEST custom t-shirt experience ANYWHERE.
  2. It raises money for Brandywine Community Schools by giving 10% of ALL CreateMyTee.com community purchases back to the school's Improvement Foundation.

Jasmine Neldon (Brandywine '09) is one of CreateMyTee's most successful Campus Reps (Western Michigan University). Jasmine, along with Brandon Hood (Brandywine '95), CreateMyTee's Regional Sales Manager, and Shelton will be spearheading the TEEmates program for Brandywine. The goal for the trio is to raise $10,000 for Brandywine in 2010.

Jasmine thinks the goal can be accomplished: "Everyone needs tees. Many different businesses, sports teams, festivals, are going to purchase shirts this year. If they use CreateMyTee, they are going to be wowed by the experience and the final product. And being able to give back to the community in the process is icing on the cake."

A committee is being formed to get the word out about how the tee shirt program can help our school district. This committee will work together to spread the word about TEEmates throughout the community.

Shelton is very excited to see what TEEmates has in store for Brandywine. "At the end of the day, the idea is to raise funds for Brandywine," says Shelton. "But it's also about amplifying school spirit, capturing moments in time, and bringing the community together to do something monumental. If we put our minds to it, the amount of money we can raise for Brandywine is limitless."

CreateMyTee has already provided the Brandywine Community with several memorable tees over the past few months. These shirts include the "On Track and Racing Forward" shirts to honor the new track, "Lakeland Conference Champs" shirts for the girls basketball team, "Kiddy Cats" shirts for the girls youth basketball league, "Beat Cancer" shirts to support Evan Hartman and his family, and many more. Additionally, CreateMyTee donated $95 to the Brandywine Improvement Foundation in February.

CreateMyTee and Brandywine will be kicking off a "Sea of Maroon" T-shirt Design Competition later this year to boost school spirit. Students from each building will have the opportunity to submit a design for the competition. Shirts with the winning designs will be provided to every student in the district in Fall 2010. In order to provide the free tee shirts to all students, we will need sponsors. Sponsors will have their business ads on the backs of all the tee shirts. If you are interested in your business or group helping to sponsor the shirts, please contact Nick Shelton at 888-392-9631or nick@CreateMyTee.com.

Are you planning an upcoming birthday, a special event, a retirement, or graduation? Do you want to promote your business or do you sponsor a team? Here is how you can get great tee-shirts and help Brandywine, too:

•Visit www.CreateMyTee.com
•Click "CreateMyTee Now!" to select your garment (tees, hoodies, jerseys, youth, sweats, etc).
•Work 1-on-1 with a professional graphic artist to bring YOUR idea to life.
•Select "Brandywine Public Schools" as your Rep during checkout.

If your school is interested in joing the TEEmates program, please email Nick@CreateMyTee.com for more information.

Bob Burnside Speaks His Mind

Thursday, March 04, 2010 @ 3:30 PM

"I had a great experience with CreateMyTee the first time out.

Obviously the order placing was very simple for me but I was duly impressed with the speed of the design and ease of the approval process. The confirmation of the approval and estimated dates for completion were wicked fast too.

Not only that, the order showed up on my door step early yesterday morning. Amazing turn around for sure in this day and age.

In short I was most impressed with the whole process and the shirts and sweatshirts look great, exactly as I had expected.  Please thank your team for a job well done.  I am a believer!  Keep up the good work and know that I will recommend CreateMyTee to others."

CreateMyTee Rep Spotlight: Heather Riecker, Albion College

Thursday, February 11, 2010 @ 1:10 PM

It's no secret that our Reps are the backbone of our success.  Not only do they deal with our customers on a personal level, they help us to build a brand from scratch on their campuses or in their regions.  They are our greatest asset, and for that, we would like to show our appreciation for them by introducing them to you, our customers!

Heather Riecker

Our first Spotlight Rep, Heather Riecker, is currently a junior at Albion College where she is studying Business and Communications. Heather has stepped up as our top Rep in 2010.  In the past six weeks, Heather has already collected an astonishing 17 orders!

In case you were wondering, Heather is addicted to cheese pizza and wears her "Fire Up Brits" tee (a CreateMyTee exclusive) every Tuesday.  She attributes her success as a Rep to making her presence known on her campus.  Her number one tactic for success is to personally assist her customers while placing an order.... It appears to be working!

Heather aspires to be "as cool as the people from CreateMyTee" when she graduates in 2011.  While this is a major feat, we'd like to think she is well on her way to achieving her dream.  When asked what her favorite aspect of being a Rep was, Heather said "(The job) is really fun, and the people at CreateMyTee aren't that bad either!"  Thanks, Heather, you aren't so bad yourself!
