Small Changes, Big Impacts

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 @ 3:06 PM

It's Wednesday and I (Hannah the Intern) would like to annouce the CreateMyTee office has decided to take steps towards decreasing it's carbon footprint! Here are a few simple, constructive ways we (and you) can start reducing our carbon shoe size without bashing the budget.

  1. The Three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Buy less, reuse and fix things when you can.
  2. Pay attention to packaging. Bring your own bag to the store. We re-use each box our garments arrive in. Please recycle or reuse the box your apparel arrives in.
  3. Ditch bottled water. Buy a reusable water bottle or canteen for your water.
  4. Go native. Use native plant species to landscape around your home or business. If anything, plant something, anything — it helps.
  5. Unplug it! Unplug appliances that you don't use frequently.
  6. Chuck your microwave. Okay, this is a bit drastic. Cook fresh food when you can, and you'll also find yourself eating out less often.
  7. Use cold water. Not in the shower... in the washer. It takes a lot of energy to heat water — multiply that by the number of loads, and your footprint just got bigger.
  8. Buy organic and local. Our shirts are purchased in our local state of Michigan and buy and offer organic or "fair trade" apparel.

Hannah Starts a Fashion Show

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 @ 2:55 PM

It's Wednesday again, which means it's hump day and time to gather around for Hannah the Intern's inside perspective!!!

My sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, recently ordered T-shirts from us. My sorority made the mistake of ordering the wrong style shirt. Upon opening the box we realized just how teenie tiny they were! BUT, since I work with such a great group of people, CreateMyTee decided to reprint our shirts on a different style. I was so excited, I picked them up myself and delivered them to my sorority sisters and they LOVED them!

That brings me to the start of today. When I brought in a sample of the teenie tiny shirts, I figured I would simply display how small the shirts were. Seems normal enough, right? Wrong. The morning turned into a full fledge fashion show with Josh (El Presidente), flexing in a junior "Juicy Couture-esque" women's fitted t-shirt. This might be the only place anyone could ever see their boss voluntarily posing in a shirt 10 sizes too small. It was as strange as it was humorous and genuine. I doubt anyone's boss has the personality, courage, or guns to even think about modeling in a shirt like this.

I guess it's appreciation for little things like this that lighten the mood, lift your spirits, and make me love my internship so much more :-)

Hannah Reflects on Her College Days

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 @ 2:03 PM

Albion's back in school...but I'm not!!!

I was looking at my Facebook news feed today and noticed all my friends had statuses about being tired and needing caffeine since it was their second day back to class. After reading about all the complaining, I felt all the stress I had last semester lift off my shoulders. I thought to myself, “I don't have to write papers, worry about homework being due, or pull any more all-nighters this semester. I have a "Big Girl" job now!” I get the best of both worlds...the College world and the Real world...everybody knows they are completely different :-) I go to work at my awesome job during the week from 9-5 and every weekend I can be a college student and visit my friends at Albion! Life is good.I hope everyone is having a great start to their semesters.

Stop! 'Hannah' Time.

Wednesday, January 06, 2010 @ 1:32 PM

Hey world! My name is Hannah Osbeck and I'm the new intern at CreateMyTee.

I am 20 years old and a junior at Albion College. I play on the Varsity Women's Volleyball team and I am also in a sorority. I wanted to intern at CreateMyTee because the marketing and financial fields of business both interest me. The opportunity here allows me to experience both of those fields as well as many others.

My first three days here have been a learning experience. I didn't know that t-shirts could be so fun and exciting. I have enjoyed working with the crew here because every day is different and I am slowly learning the in's and out's of the business. Josh has been teaching me about the financial aspect, Nick showed me how the campus rep program works, and Chad has just taught me how to blog! I can't wait to learn more! :-)

Talk to you next Wednesday.
